Meanwhile, second baseman José Altuve says he tested positive for COVID-19 but hasn’t felt ill and hopes to return to Houston's lineup soon. The 2017 AL MVP was among five Astros who were placed on the COVID-19 list April 14. The four other players were back on the active roster within a few days. It’s unclear how much time Altuve will need before playing again.

Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 24 points and moved into second place on the Milwaukee Bucks’ career scoring list in a 132-94 romp over the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday. The Bucks beat the 76ers for the second time in three days to hand Philadelphia its fourth straight defeat. The 76ers were playing without All-Stars Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons. The 76ers matched their lowest point total and suffered their most lopsided loss of the season. Antetokounmpo increased his career total to 12,023 to overtake Glenn Robinson for second on the Bucks' list. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is the Bucks' top career scorer.

Gerrit Cole was one pitch better than Shane Bieber in a heavyweight matchup of aces as Rougned Odor and Aaron Hicks homered off Cleveland’s Cy Young winner in the fifth inning, giving the New York Yankees a 2-1 win over the Indians. Cole truck out 11 and allowed just four hits in seven innings to beat Bieber in a rematch of their meeting in last year’s playoffs. Cole’s 50 strikeouts in his first five starts are the most for any pitcher in New York’s storied history. Bieber tied Hall of Famer Randy Johnson's record with eight strikeouts in 17 consecutive starts. The Yankees will try to sweep the four-game series Sunday.

Kent Emanuel worked 8 2/3 innings in relief in his major league debut, saving Houston’s bullpen after Jake Odorizzi left early with an injury, and the Astros routed the Los Angeles Angels 16-2. Emanuel allowed five hits and two runs. The 28-year-old became the fourth pitcher in the modern era to have a relief outing of 8 2/3 innings or more in his debut, according to STATS. Alex Bregman hit a three-run homer, Yordan Alvarez had a season-high four RBIs and Carlos Correa had three hits including a homer for Houston. The Astros won their third straight following a three-game skid.

Louis Oosthuizen and Charl Schwartzel birdied six of their final eight holes Saturday to shoot a 9-under 63 and take a one-shot lead  into the final round of the Zurich Classic. The South African duo had a 19-under 197 total. Australians Marc Leishman and Cameron Smith also shot a 63 in the best-ball round to move into a tie for second at 18 under with Cameron Champ and Tony Finau, who shot a 67. The tournament will close with an alternate-shot round.

Arizona Diamondbacks right fielder Kole Calhoun will always cherish his childhood memory of catching a foul ball hit by Tony Gwynn in spring training. Now that he’s 33 and in his ninth major league season, Calhoun can still appreciate those moments — especially when he was inches away from watching another kid enjoy a similar highlight. On Friday night, Calhoun ran toward the stands to try to catch a foul ball hit by Atlanta;s Austin Riley. Calhoun reached into the stands, thinking he could make the catch. Instead, a boy wearing glasses and holding a glove made what Calhoun believed was a very impressive grab.

A fight over the name of Josh drew a crowd from around the country to a Nebraska park Saturday for a heated pool-noodle brawl. It all started a year ago when pandemic boredom set in and 22-year-old Josh Swain, from Tucson, Arizona, messaged others who shared his name on social media and challenged them to a duel. Joshes from around the country showed up at Air Park in Lincoln to participate in the silliness. The festivities started with a “righteous battle of Rock, Paper, Scissors” between the Josh Swain from Arizona and another Josh Swain from Omaha. KLKN-TV reports the Arizona student won, allowing him to claim the title of the true Josh Swain. The pool-noodle competition that followed was open to anyone with the first name of Josh. 

Rapper DMX is being mourned at a memorial with family and close friends at the Barclays Center in New York. The event is closed to the public due to pandemic conditions. Organizers say they will follow New York COVID-19 testing guidelines and protocols. The ceremony is being livestreamed on DMX’s YouTube channel. No details were given about who may be appearing, performing or speaking. His funeral service will be held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. EDT and broadcast live on BET.

Michael Perez had three hits and drove in three runs, helping Trevor Cahill and the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Minnesota Twins 6-2. Cahill permitted one run and two hits in six innings. The right-hander retired the Twins in order in five of his innings. It was Cahill’s longest outing since he also worked six innings for the Angels at Baltimore on May 10, 2019. UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin says the shock of Slovenia's 10-day war 30 years ago prepared him for the battle that nearly split European soccer last week. Ceferin was conscripted just as his tiny nation declared independence from Yugoslavia. Ceferin says while war and sport can't be directly compared, “both were stressful — the tension was similar.” Ceferin was reflecting to The Associated Press on how he stopped 12 elite clubs breaking away to form a closed competition to usurp the Champions League. He described them as “spoiled children" who "cannot destabilize me.”

A North Carolina sheriff whose deputies fatally shot a Black man while serving warrants says he will seek the release of body camera video as soon as he’s confident it won’t compromise the investigation. The statement came Saturday from Pasquotank County Sheriff Tommy Wooten II. He said he'll ask a judge as early as Monday to release of deputy body camera footage of the shooting death of Andrew Brown Jr. Brown was fatally shot last Wednesday. The sheriff released a recorded video statement just after civil rights leaders and others held a news conference to demand release of the footage.  

Brady Singer pitched seven impressive innings, and the Kansas City Royals took advantage of some defensive sloppiness by Detroit in a 2-1 victory over the Tigers. Willi Castro homered for Detroit in the fifth, but that wasn’t enough to overcome Kansas City’s two runs in the top of that inning. Singer allowed three hits and struck out eight. Matthew Boyd was on the wrong end of this pitcher’s duel, allowing one earned run and three hits in eight innings. The Tigers have lost eight of nine.

Sidney Crosby and Bryan Rust each scored their 20th goal of the season, and the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the New Jersey Devils 4-2. Crosby got an empty-netter with 0.1 seconds to play. His goal came following a tense net-mouth scramble in which the Devils nearly tied the game. Crosby surpassed Evgeni Malkin and Mario Lemieux for the most 20-plus goal seasons in franchise history. He’s the 36th player in NHL history to have 13 or more 20-plus goal seasons.

Officials say a piece of copper that was struck by the U.S. Mint in Philadelphia in 1794 and was a prototype for the fledgling nation’s money was auctioned off for $840,000, considerably more than expected. Heritage auctions spokesman Eric Bradley said the “No Stars Flowing Hair Dollar” opened at $312,000 when it was put up Friday evening but “in less than a minute, intense bidding quickly pushed the coin to its final auction price of $840,000.” The coin, formerly owned by businessman and Texas Rangers co-chairman Bob Simpson, had been expected to sell for $350,000 to $500,000.

All-Stars Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons have been ruled out for Philadelphia’s game at the Milwaukee Bucks. After initially sending out a starting lineup that included Embiid, the 76ers announced that their star center would miss the game. Embiid had been listed as questionable with a sore right shoulder. This will be the fourth straight game Simmons has missed due to an unspecified illness.

Roger Penske doesn’t want a repeat of the Daytona 500, when teammates Joey Logano and Brad Keselowski took each other out racing for the win on the final lap. Penske, owner of Team Penske, convened his drivers for a zoom session ahead of Sunday’s Geico 500 at Talladega Superspeedway on the importance of balancing the good of the team with individuals’ competitive desires. As Ryan Blaney said, the message was addressing how to go about it if “we're 1-2 coming to the end” of the race.
