NYC honors essential workers at parade up Canyon of Heroes

The people who helped get New York City through the pandemic are being honored at a parade. City officials say the event Wednesday honors a range of people, including workers in health care, transportation, education and infrastructure. The parade kicked off at Battery Park and traveling up Broadway in lower Manhattan, the iconic stretch known as the Canyon of Heroes. Previous parades have honored world leaders, celebrities and winning sports teams. The parade’s grand marshal is Sandra Lindsay, a health care worker who was the first person in the country to get a COVID-19 vaccine shot.

Bill Gates and Melinda French Gates will continue to work together as co-chairs of their foundation even after their planned divorce. However, if after two years they cannot continue in their roles, French Gates will resign her positions as co-chair and trustee, The Bill and Gates Melinda Foundation announced Wednesday. If French Gates resigns, Gates would essentially buy her out of the foundation, one of the world’s largest private charitable organizations, and she would receive resources from him to do her own philanthropic work. Cejka seeks 3rd major at US Senior Open; Els, Furyk in field

Alex Cejka has had no trouble adjusting to professional golf’s 50-and-over division. The PGA Tour Champions newcomer already has wins in two senior majors and will go for a third this week in the U.S. Senior Open at Omaha Country Club in Nebraska. The field includes 16 players who won a total of 26 majors before joining the senior tour. Among them in the Senior Open for the first time are Ernie Els, Jim Furyk, Jose Maria Olazabal, Rich Beem and Mike Weir.
