On 'Bite Me,' Reneé Rapp punches back

Reneé Rapp's second album, “Bite Me,” gave the 25-year-old multi-hyphenate an outlet to work through the whirlwind that has been her career so far. She toured her first album, “Snow Angel,” left HBO's “The Sex Lives of College Girls” and played Regina in the 2024 musical remake of “Mean Girls.” Rapp told The Associated Press that she approached the project with intention. She said that process was grueling, but also fun. She hopes the result empowers fans, too. The album is out Friday. She'll launch a tour in September.

From 'Crossfire' to 'CeaseFire': C-SPAN executive launches program that promotes common ground

For many years when he worked at CNN, Sam Feist was a producer for “Crossfire,” which highlighted often loud political differents. Now that he is CEO of C-SPAN, Feist is looking for a different approach. The network will soon debut a new show, “CeaseFire,” that promotes conversations between political opposites trying to reach common ground. Feist has selected Dasha Burns of “Politico” to host the new program, which is debuting this fall. “Crossfire” arguably led American politicians into a more polarized place, now obvious in its politics. Feists hopes that “CeaseFire” can show Americans ways that its leaders can work together.

Judge dismisses lawsuit filed by Alec Baldwin for malicious prosecution in fatal 'Rust' set shooting

A New Mexico judge has dismissed a lawsuit filed by actor Alec Baldwin for malicious prosecution in the fatal shooting of a cinematographer on the set of the Western movie “Rust.” The judge in a ruling made public Wednesday dismissed the case without prejudice for lack of any significant action with the claim. Baldwin's attorneys say settlement discussions have been ongoing and that they have been waiting to prosecute the case pending the outcome of those talks. Baldwin had alleged defamation, saying that prosecutors and investigators intentionally mishandled evidence. A judge last summer dismissed a charge of involuntary manslaughter against Baldwin in the 2021 death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.

The European Union's trade agreement with the Trump administration is receiving mixed reviews. EU officials claim they avoided a major economic disaster, but French officials argue the EU didn't leverage its full strength. The deal imposes a 15% tariff on most goods imported into the U.S., with no agreement on key areas like pharmaceuticals and steel. French officials criticize the deal as unbalanced, while Germany and Italy see it as avoiding unnecessary escalation. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán calls it a failure for Europe. Economists warn the deal could hinder growth and lacks clarity.

The Profanity Trend Is Tired and Played Out

In 1985 – when I was 7 – the young kids in my neighborhood had a “swear club.” To join, the initiate had to hide behind a tree with the assembled members and say every swear word he knew. It was less common for children our age to encounter profanity back then. There weren’t many parents who routinely used profanity around kids, and other adults would clean up their speech when children were in earshot. This meant that the obscenities we did know were gleaned from overhearing adults in moments when they thought kids weren’t listening, or in brief bits of a new cable subscription service called HBO as we switched through the channels for our parents.
