EXPLAINER: Will ex-officer on trial for Floyd death testify?

A decision looms for a former police officer about whether to speak to jurors directly at his trial for murder and manslaughter in George Floyd’s death. Testifying may be Derek Chauvin’s only hope of rebutting video at the heart of prosecutors’ case that shows Chauvin pinning Floyd for about 9 1/2 minutes. But doing so would also open Chauvin to potentially devastating cross-examination by prosecutors. Legal experts say prosecutors would likely play the widely seen bystander video with Chauvin on the stand, repeatedly asking him how Floyd posed a threat.

Analysis: Injuries wreaking more havoc than virus protocols

As NBA teams gear up for the stretch run of the regular season, it's injuries to key players and not just unavailability due to COVID-19 protocols that are having the biggest effect on the playoff race. When the season tipped off, keeping players healthy as they traveled during the pandemic was the chief priority around the league as it prepared to navigate outside the controlled atmosphere of the Florida bubble. While virtually every team has had to make at least some roster adjustment because of health and safety protocols, injuries have become the dominant concern with the postseason looming on the horizon.
